Robinson Crusoe Island

Only 400 miles away from Chile’s mainland, this island is the second largest of the Juan Fernández Islands and the more populous of the inhabited islands in the archipelago.

The island was home to the marooned sailor Alexander Selkirk from 1704 to 1709 and inspired Daniel Defoe’s 1719 novel.
Activities include hiking, horseback-riding and diving with seals and to the remains of the SMS Dresden scuttled during WW I.

Lying at the south-eastern point of the Polynesian triangle, yachts are increasingly visiting this isolated island off the Chilean coast.
The island is famous for its “Moais” and is an interesting stop-over for yachts sailing east or west in the Southern Pacific offering some great hiking, diving and cultural events.

The island can also be reached by commercial and private flights from mainland Chile.
